The Halland Regional Development Council is a municipal association that in 2003 was commissioned to stimulate continual development and growth in Halland. We perform this honourary task together with our members - the county council and the six municipalities of Halland - and in close collaboration with companies and other regional players.
The Regional Development Strategy sets the objectives for our long-term development with our ambitious vision: "Halland - where you live the good life". It is in Halland that you should be able to find the perfect place to live and it is here that the best possible prerequisites for education, work and starting new companies are to be made available to you.
Our guiding star in working for growth in The Regional Development Programme points towards the following four areas of expansion:
• Event and experience industry
• Healthcare technology
• Foodstuffs
• Environmental technology/Sustainable energy
Work within areas of growth takes place in close collaboration with companies and other local and regional players.
Other important areas of expansion for The Halland Regional Development Council are:
• Infrastructure
• Public health
• Welfare services
• Culture
• Housing and accommodation
• Development of skills/Choice of available labour
• Entrepreneurship/New start-ups
• Business development/Innovations
Since 2007 it has been possible for Halland to apply for financial resources from the EU's structure funds. These have now been allocated to making the region more attractive, strengthening its growth and to expanding collaboration between regions in different countries. For The Halland Regional Development Council this means being able to work within our areas of development in a newer and broader sense. Project activity has also increased substantially.
Working activities at the regional office in Halmstad are now divided into three departments - the department of living environment, the department of growth and expansion and the department of administration. There are approximately 85 employees at the office of which 35 are there on a project basis.
The Halland Regional Development Council is also responsible for four schools: the agricultural colleges at Plönninge in Harplinge and Munkagård in Tvååker, as well as the high schools at Katrineberg in Vessigebro and Löftadalen in Åsa.
At the start of 2011 Halland will become a regional municipality, this means that health services and medical care, as well as regional growth projects, will be amalgamated into a common organisation known as The Halland Regional Development Council.
