Hospital Dentistry Division

The Hospital Dentistry Division offers specialist services at Hallands hospital Halmstad and Hallands hospital Varberg, situated 80 km north of Halmstad. We treat patients with special needs, following referrals from the two hospitals, and from general medical and dental practitioners.

Oral treatment is focused on medically compromised adult patients who require elimination of oral infection, prophylaxis and follow-up because of haematological malignancy with chemotherapy and/or bone marrow transplantation, organ transplantation, malignancy in head and neck with radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy, endocarditis and sinusitis.

Patients with dental treatment phobia, mental retardation or motor handicap, sleep apnoea, and diseases of the oral mucosa are also taken care of, and salivary dysfunction (Sjögren’s Syndrome) is analysed.

Inpatients, receiving medical care are treated, if they have acute dental treatment need or are under medical rehabilitation (i.e. anorexia, stroke).

The staff provides education to nursing personnel at the two hospitals, and to students during nursing education, and the dental hygienists in the unit have a regular consulting role in the medical wards.
