IADR 2011 E.W. Borrow Memorial Award price-motivation:

Twetman is a professor at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He has made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of oral health, particularly in children. He has achieved this through systematical studies of the effect on oral ecology and health of fluoride in different vehicles including fluoridated milk, chlorhexidine, xylitol and probiotic bacteria mainly in milk products and in the promotion of community preventive programs. His research has to a large extent been performed in clinical settings and he has encouraged and led research teams that systematically have collected clinical data for further studies in the laboratories. He has also made a substantial contribution to the knowledge in cariology and pediatric dentistry in lectures world-wide in developed as well as in undeveloped countries. Through his lectures, he also has contributed to improved knowledge about the importance of adequate designs in clinical studies.
