The hospitals of Halland are using Qlik Sense as a business intelligence tool with several created applications for tracking and analyzing large volumes of health care data for improved care quality. With 800 unique healthcare staff users every month in Qlik, the application “Current Bed Occupancy Status" (1) is the most frequently used application. The main dashboard in the application shows the number of available staffed hospital beds in inpatient care, distributed across our three hospitals and departments.

It also displays the number of patients:
- in the emergency rooms and those with a confirmed admission to inpatient care.
- expected to leave the hospital today.
- ready for discharge, but waiting for the municipality to arrange community care.
- the number of beds used by patients from outside the region.

Doctors, nurses, hospital bed coordinators and department heads are using the application to:
- keep track of available hospital beds to assess the current workload, anticipate staffing needs
and determine where patients can be placed.
- be ready for expected incoming patients.
- track patients assigned to other departments and wards.

Other frequently used applications include:

  • “Current Emergency Room Status” (2)
    Displays the number of patients:
    - at the emergency room per hospital and unit
    - in queue to triage and to see a doctor
    - expected to arrive at the emergency room within the next few hours
and average turnaround time and other average times in the emergency room.

  • “The Corona Application” (3)
Displays the number of covid-positive patients per admission date in inpatient care and the daily number of patients hospitalized with a coronavirus infection.

  • “The Flu and RS application” (4)
Displays the number of patients with a positive influenza or RS test by admission date in inpatient care and the number of patients per day that are hospitalized with influenza or RS infections.
